Palatal Expanders are used to address issues of crowding, cross-bite, and other issues with the bite. The palate expander gently widens the jaw over 9 to 12 months. Most patients do not need a palate expander. For those that do it is helpful to reshape the jaw to prepare the mouth for braces.
